The KIT-ASEAN Joint Symposium 2025 was held on January 9-10, 2025, at Chiang Mai University, Thailand. This symposium is the successor to the Japan-Vietnam Seminar, which has been held since 2002, and is now in its 21st year. We have strengthened the research exchange network among Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, and Cambodia.
Following FY 2018, our efforts have been selected by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) as a Core-to-Core Program for FY 2023 (FY 2023-FY 2025).
This time, the symposium was held at Chiang Mai University, the Thai base for this project. From KIT, Assoc. Prof. FUKUZAWA Masayuki, who is the principal investigator, and Vice President KAMEI Kaeko participated, accompanied by 5 other researchers. In addition, 9 researchers from 6 institutions in Vietnam and Cambodia were invited to Chiang Mai University by KIT.
After an opening address by Prof. Dr. Bannakij Lojanapiwat, Dean of Faculty of Medicine in Chiang Mai University, Dr. OTANI Yoshio, Director of JSPS Bangkok Office, delivered a guest speech, which was followed by a keynote speech on “Exploring the origin of human biodiversity: towards the future medical engineering in Anthropocene” by Prof. Nomura Tadashi, Presidential Aide of KIT. The participants listened attentively to the lecture.
The event was concluded successfully with a total of 40 research presentations divided in three sections and lively discussions leveraging the network that has been built up over the past 20 years.
