Re: Students Laboratory Activities (4th official communication)
In order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease, laboratory activities of students have been suspended until June 30; however, following the lifting of Kyoto Prefecture’s request for suspension of universities’ activities as of May 28, we are accordingly partially lifting the above measures, allowing laboratory activities to take place as follows, starting on June 1. Be sure to confirm with the students and gain their consent before proceeding. Also, be sure to pay sufficient attention to infection prevention and safety management inside the laboratory.
1)Avoid the “3 conditions for spread of the infection”, i.e. closed spaces, crowded places, and close contact.
?The number of students inside the laboratory should in principle be kept at a minimum of 50% or
less.
Therefore, only research activities that require the use of devices, organisms, materials, etc. at the
university should be conducted; all other activities (data organizing, writing or browsing of papers /
materials / drawings, other desk work, etc.) should be done at home. In addition, seminars and
research meetings should be held online.
?In principle, laboratory activities should take place between 9 am and 7 pm.
?Try to maintain a distance of 2 meters or more among people who enter the room, and, if it has to
be less than 2 meters, set a partition with vinyl sheets or plastic plates.
?Ventilate each room sufficiently by operating ventilation fans and opening windows.
2)Make an effort to prevent the spread of the infection by disinfecting and washing your hands.
?Regularly disinfect the doorknobs in each room, and disinfect the keyboard and switches depending
on actual usage. You can receive the mildly acidic hypochlorous acid tablets used in disinfectants
(used for diluting) from the Safety and Environment department of the Facility Management and
Security Office.
? Encourage frequent hand washing.
? Be sure to wear a mask when entering the room.
3)Manage entering and leaving
?Each room (student room, laboratory, etc.) should be equipped with an entry / exit notebook to
record information such as entry date, entry time, exit time, name of person, purpose of entry, etc.
