Re: CAUTION: Preventing Viral Transmission at Events, Functions, Gatherings, etc.

��In Japan, the number of new COVID-19 cases has increased in some areas, and there are concerns that an eighth wave of novel coronavirus infection may be on the way.
��Although there are no major changes in KIT policies on safe practices in social situations, we are aware that social events involving food and beverages are being planned, so we would like to reiterate the need to observe the recommendations below during events, functions, gatherings, etc.
��KIT policy on events, functions, gatherings, etc., whether held on or off campus, is as outlined below. There is an increased risk of infection and the possibility of cluster outbreaks following events, functions and gatherings in places where food and beverages are served. The occurrence of a cluster could interfere with the execution of KIT operations, so we ask that you strictly refrain from participating in events, etc. that involve eating and drinking. If some special reason or circumstance makes it difficult to comply with the directives that follow, be sure to consult us at the planning stage using the relevant contact information below.

�� Events, functions, gatherings, etc.
The points below are taken from the Kyoto Institute of Technology
Manual on Limiting Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Transmission (pages 9 and 10)
��Students, faculty members and staff should implement the following in addition to ��1. Infectious disease control basics�� above, when hosting or participating in events or meetings where a large number of people gather. If there are other instructions you have received individually, follow those instructions as well.

��Practices implemented by the university��
• When holding an event, depending on the type of event, be sure to avoid the 3Cs (closed spaces, crowded places, close-contact).
• Request that participants wear a mask depending on the type of event.
• Remind participants not to speak loudly or talk for a long time in close proximity.
• Prohibit eating and drinking during events.
• Require organizers to make a list of participants’ names and contact information in case of an infection outbreak.
• Require organizers to prepare an implementation plan describing infectious disease control measures they will use when holding events, etc.

��Points to be observed by organizers and participants��
• Follow the instructions of faculty and staff.
• The event organizer should take sufficient infection measures.
• The event organizer should create a list of participants�� names and contact information.
• The event organizer should create an implementation plan that describes the infection measures and submit it when applying for on-campus facility use.
• The event organizer should carry out the event according to the implementation plan and provide corrective instructions to participants whose actions increase the risk of infection.
• Event participants should follow the instructions of the organizer.
